The ASMD
Shock Rifle has changed little since its incorporation
into the Tournament. The ASMD sports two firing modes
capable of acting in concert to neutralize opponents in
a devastating shockwave. This combination attack is achieved
when the weapon operator utilizes the secondary fire mode
to deliver a charge of seeded plasma to the target. Once
the slow-moving plasma charge is within range of the target,
the weapon operator may fire the photon beam into the
plasma core, releasing the explosive energy of the anti-photons
contained within the plasma's EM field.

The Shock Rifle made it’s debut in the original Unreal
Tournament, and it’s as useful as it ever was.
The primary firing mode shoots out a deadly blaze of plasma
that hits instantly. The recharge rate is very good, allowing
you to fire again two seconds after firing the first shot.
It is a great weapon in any situation. The only time the weapon
becomes a bad choice is if your target is jumping and strafing
and moving erratically. Aside from attacking enemies, the
primary mode is a great way of damaging nodes and cores in
Onslaught mode.
The secondary firing mode launches a large plasma ball, which
moves very slowly. It causes more damage, but is best used
against stationary targets.
You can also use a third firing mode, which combines both
types. Use the secondary fire mode to get the plasma ball
going, then fire the primary attack into the plasma ball.
When the beam reaches the ball, it explodes, causing tremendous
damage. If you manage to get an enemy who has full health,
he will die. If the enemy is fully armored, he can say goodbye
to all of it, as well as half his health. It isn’t easy
to pull off, especially in the middle of a big fight, but
the result is certainly worth it.
