What is a video game without a machine gun? Well, probably
not a first-person-shooter. The Minigun is Unreal Tournament
2004’s take on the standard machine gun found in many
games. It can be either a very powerful weapon or a very useless
weapon, depending on how it’s used. You will want to
use the gun only in close quarters; don’t fire at targets
from a distance, as your chance of hitting with even one bullet
is nil. For those of you who played Team Fortress Classic,
remember how some HWGuy’s would fire their machine gun
at your from the opposing bridge in the 2fort map? Well, that’s
the same here; useless and stupid.
The primary firing mode is a rapid-fire attack with decent
accuracy. It deals a moderate amount of damage, and should
become one of the more-used weapons you play with.
The alternate fire is even faster, but much less accurate.
The Minigun has only two weaknesses. The first is the precious
few seconds it takes for the gun to wind up when you begin
firing. It may not seem like much, but by the time you get
the gun firing, you could’ve lost twenty points of health
and/or armor. The second weakness is the way it chews through
your ammo. A 200-bullet clip can be emptied in twenty seconds.
Conserve! You should try to use burst fire most of the time.
