WALKTHROUGH
- THE SHORES OF ATTICA
ATTICA
Kratos will be attacked by a group of Persian soldiers
after they climb up the
side of the wall at the beginning of this area. Use
a Plume of Prometheus (Square,
Square, Triangle) to easily keep the crowd of them grounded
then follow that attack up
with a few Square presses. They can be taken to the
air by pressing and holding
the Triangle button to knock them up - perform some
Square attacks or grab them while in
the air with them. Each soldier can be grabbed with
the Circle button while on the
ground for an instant kill. Break the crates on the
side of the rooftop for
some extra red orbs. All of these red orbs can be used
to powerup Kratos'
current weapons or abilities in the inventory menu (press
Start to view it).
These enemies can easily be taken down with any type
of attack or combination.
They will attack with sword slashes (can be blocked)
when close but they are
very slow to attack allowing Kratos to quickly decimate
them with any attack.
A Plume of Prometheus is good to use for crowds and
a grab will instantly kill
a single Persian soldier.
A cutscene will eventually play once the first group
of soldiers have been
defeated. After the cutscene, fight off the Persian
soldiers that climb up the
side of the wall then run over to the giant crossbow
and fulfill the Athenian
soldier's dying wish by returning fire to the boat out
at sea. Run over to the
crossbow
and interact with it by tapping the Circle button when the
Circle button icon
appear then hold back on the analog to pull back then
Kratos will kick and
shoot the boat.
A fireball will damage the roof of the building that
Kratos is on. Run over to
the hole and fall down inside. Kratos will fall into
a room with Persian and
Athenian soldiers. There is a --GREEN CHEST-- to the
side of this room that
can be opened (hold Circle near it) to gain some green orbs
that will restore any
lost health. Fight off the Persian soldiers. The Athenian
soldiers will
release green orbs once defeated. Break the crates and
pots in the room for
some extra red orbs.
Walk over to the door after the battle and interact
with it when the Circle button
icon appears. Tap the Circle button to open it. An action
cutscene will play once
the door is opened... well, sort of opened. These action
cutscenes require
certain inputs in order to survive them.
>><< = Circle button tap
A Cyclops busts through the door and spots Kratos.
The Cyclops attempts to
smash Kratos with its big club but Kratos >>STRUGGLES<<
with the monster's club
and eventually pushes the club back upwards. A Basilisk
busts through the wall
in the back of the room and grabs the Cyclops in its
mouth then eats it.
Attacks:
Bite Attack - The Basilisk suddenly lunges its head
forward and bites then
performs another bite as it moves its head to the other
side.
Fireball - The Basilisk's mouth engulfs in flames then
it opens its mouth to
shoot a fireball.
The Basilisk only has two main attacks during this
fight and they can be easily
avoided by simply rolling to the side (hold L + R then
tap in a direction).
His main attack is his fireball, so just watch for its
mouth to engulf in
flames then get ready to dodge the oncoming fireball.
When Kratos gets close
to the Basilisk it will lunge its head forward to bite
- roll backwards at that
time to escape its deadly jaws.
Kratos must get close to the Basilisk's head in order
to hit it, so you will
have to constantly roll backwards to avoid its bite
attack. Run up to it and
hit it with a Plume of Prometheus (Square, Square, Triangle)
then get ready to dodge any of
its attacks afterward. The Basilisk will constantly
release orbs after hitting
it. The best method of hitting and dodging during this
battle is to roll
backward every time the Basilisk releases orbs and prepare
to dodge the
oncoming attack with a roll - you'll have time for one
Plume of Prometheus each
time.
Once the Basilisk has been taken down far enough in
life, a Circle button icon will
appear over its head. Run up to the Basilisk and tap
the Circle button for an
action cutscene.
++ = Random button press
Kratos plunges both Chaos Blades into the Basilisk's
face then slams its head
against the left then right sidewall.
Kratos +MOVES+ to the left as the
Basilisk reaches forward with its paw to crush him.
As the Basilisk tries to
pull its paw back, Kratos sticks both Chaos Blades into
the paw then tugs it
toward him and stabs it with the blades. The creature
pulls its paw back then
Kratos faces it and +JUMPS+ to the ceiling by attaching
his Chaos Blades to the
ceiling as the Basilisk lunges forward with a bite.
Kratos falls from the
ceiling and lands on the Basilisk's head after its head
moves into the building
then Kratos stabs the beast's left eye with the Chaos
Blades. Kratos jumps off
the head of the beast with both Chaos Blades still attached
then slams the
Basilisk's head down to the floor.
Run up to the giant mace after the cutscene then grab
it with the Circle button
when
the icon appears to bash the Basilisk over the head
and make it retreat.
Leave the room after the battle and step out onto the
shores of Attica for a
cutscene.
THE GATES OF ATTICA
As you can see, fireballs are raining all along the
shore. Watch for the red
glow on the ground to know when an incoming fireball
is about to make impact
then simply move or roll away from it while moving along
the shore. Break the
small barricades along the shore for some extra red
orbs.
Find the wooden ram conveniently placed on the other
side of the beach then
walk over to the right side and grab the handle when
the Circle button icon appears.
While holding the Circle button, use the analog to push the
wooden ram up the ramp
that leads to a gate - watch for the fireballs! Place
the wooden ram in front
of the door. Don't do anything with it just yet though.
Run over to the right
and open the --RED CHEST-- on that side. Move over to
the left side to find a --SAVE PILLAR-- nearby where your game may be saved
then hop on top of the
wooden walkway by the wall and open the --UNMARKED CHEST
(GORGON EYE [1/21])-- to receive a gorgon eye. Collect five of these to extend
Kratos' life gauge.
Run back over to the wooden ram and stand in the back
of it and a O button icon
will appear. Press the Circle button to have Kratos grab
onto the back of the ram
then tap the Circle button rapidly to make Kratos pull back
on the wooden ram and
ram the gate.
Attack the Persian soldiers on the other side then
move on up the steps for a
cutscene involving an archer.
Armed with a bow and arrow, these types of enemies
are found throughout the
game in a few different forms, but they all share the
same attack. They will
always shoot arrows that can be blocked. Run up to them
and grab them for a
one-hit kill no matter what kind of archer it is or
you can use a Plume of
Prometheus to knock them to their feet from a distance,
but ultimately it is
best to grab them.
Break all the crates around the area then jump into
the water and swim over to
the archer. Jump out of the water (X) then defeat the
archers around the area
(grab them) along with any other Persian soldiers that
try to exit through the
gate on the wall to the side.
There is a --GREEN CHEST-- next to the door in the
background of this walkway.
Fight off the Persian soldiers until they stop exiting
through the open gate
then turn your attention toward the crank across the
doorway in the background
- more soldiers will exit from the gate after checking
the crank. Run over to
the crank and grab the shiny side of it
when the button icon appears then hold
the Circle button and rotate it to open the door in the back.
Once the door is
fully open, let go of the crank then run to the door
and roll under it before
it closes.
Fall off the cliff on the other side then fight off
the soldiers below. Run
toward the archers and grab them all to easily defeat
them so they won't be
shooting at Kratos the whole time that he fights the
other soldiers. Break all
the objects found around the area after the battle.
There are two walls that
can be broken in this area with constant attacks. Break
the wooden wall to the
right in the background to reveal a --RED CHEST-- and
another --RED CHEST--.
Run back to the center of this area and break the wooden
wall near the dead
soldier that is leaning against the wall.
A ladder will be revealed, so climb
it. Climb up to the first walkway then jump off the
ladder (tap X while
climbing to jump off of it).
Open the --UNMARKED CHEST (GORGON EYE [2/21])-- for another gorgon eye.
Get back on the ladder then climb all the way to the
top and kick down the door
at the top by interacting with it.
Move across the bridge after the cutscene
and fight off the Persian soldiers that attack by hitting
them with Plumes of
Prometheus. Run to the left side of the walkway and
open the --RED CHEST-- down that side. Move back down the path that you just
came from and take the
other path. Carefully move across the wooden plank (tap
X if Kratos falls).
Open the --GREEN CHEST-- if needed on the other side
of the walkway then grab
the bottom of the door up ahead and lift it open for
a cutscene.
FALLEN STRONGHOLD
Attacks:
Running Slash - Persian Commander runs at Kratos
while his sword glows then hits him with an overhead
slash.
Slash Combo - Persian Commander slashes
twice while stepping forward.
Efreet Ground Pound - Persian Commander
summons Efreet then Efreet pounds the ground and a shockwave
of fire appears around the Persian Commander.
Persian soldiers will attack Kratos throughout this
battle so they will never
be truly out of your hair until quite a few have been
defeated. Run toward the
Persian soldiers and defeat them so they will not annoy
Kratos for the moment
then turn your attention toward the Persian Commander.
Both of his sword
attacks can be blocked, but his Running Slash will stagger
Kratos - the move
doesn't take off damage if guarded against but it will
leave Kratos open to
Persian soldier attacks. The Efreet Ground Pound cannot
be guarded against and
must be rolled away from. Roll out of the shockwave
path. He only performs
the Efreet move if Kratos attacks aggressively while
the Pirate Commander
raises his shield, so try to get in a few hits then
roll away or just take a
slight break between hits when he raises his shield.
Attack the Persian Commander with Plumes of Prometheus
or use combo Square, Triangle but
be sure to guard whenever he attacks and roll away if
you see the Efreet form
above him. You can also grab a Persian soldier if one
is nearby when the
Persian Commander attacks and this will make him cancel
his current attack.
The Persian Commander will laugh and release orbs once
each quarter of his
life has been drained. Grab him when the button icon
appears over his head to
initiate the finishing Action Cutscene for this battle.
>><< = Circle button tap
++ = Random button press
Kratos >>STRUGGLES<< with the Persian Commander
as their swords clash but
Kratos wins then rushes forward and +KNOCKS+ the sword
away from the Persian
Commander's hand. Kratos rushes in again then the Persian
Commander uses
Efreet but Kratos +DODGES+ out of the way of the flaming
familiar and continues
toward the Persian then stabs him and tosses his crippled
ass into a nearby
treasure chest.
>><< = Circle button tap
The Persian Commander begs for his life but Kratos
picks up a chest and the
Persian Commander grabs it as well.
The two >>STRUGGLE<< but Kratos gets the
best of the commander and insists on banging the hell
out his head then giving
him back his gold with one final slam to the head which
crushes the commander's
skull into the concrete... then all is well once again.
Kratos will gain ++THE EFREET++ ability after this
battle.
This ability causes
a flame familiar to appear above Kratos then the familiar
will pound the ground
as Kratos does so and let loose a flame shockwave that
will burn all nearby
enemies. It just so happens that some Persian soldiers
will now attack and
allow Kratos to try it on them, so go ahead and hold
R then tap Triangle to activate
the Demon's Fury attack of The Efreet. While the Persian
soldiers continue to
attack Kratos will have unlimited magic, so keep using
the Demon's Fury until
all of them fall. The gates will open once all of the
soldiers are defeated.
Using The Efreet any time after the soldier battle will
now take magic power
away from the magic (blue) gauge below the life bar.
Use blue orbs to fill
this.
Enter the right door and Kratos will stumble upon some
women that the Persian
Commander was keeping as hostages.
Walk toward them to engage in the usual SEX
MINIGAME ACTION CUTSCENE. You don't really need a description
do you? Oh, all
right...
++ = Random button press
@@@@ = Analog rotation
!!!! = L and R tap
The camera moves over to a candle holder as Kratos lies
down with the two
women. The candle holder begins to shuffle as a +SLIGHT
RUMBLING+ is heard
followed by sounds of passion. The candle holder continues
to rock as the
moaning +INTENSIFIES+. More @@JOLTING@@ can then be
heard as cries of pleasure
give way to @@RUMBLING@@. The candle holder begins to
!!ROCK INTENSELY!! as it
nearly collapses onto the floor but a sudden +BURST+ of excitement ends the
candle holder's journey as the candle light diminishes
ensuring us that Kratos
is a god among men and all of his worries have now been
set at ease... for the
moment at least.
Through the other gate, a --SAVE PILLAR-- lies near
the left wall. Walk over
to the door then lift it to continue.
A camera shift will show the Basilisk in the distance.
A --BLUE/GREEN CHEST-- is on the far side of the walkway. Defeat the Persian
soldiers outside then,
like the tutorial suggested, run over to the two ladders
propped up against the
wall on Kratos' right then kick each of them down to
keep the soldiers from
climbing up the wall for a few seconds. They will raise
the ladders again in a
few seconds.
Run over to the giant crossbow and grab the shiny handle
piece then hold the Circle button and turn the giant crossbow to face the Basilisk
in the distance.
Get
behind the giant crossbow once it is properly aligned
with the rampaging
Basilisk then press the Circle button and pull back on the
analog to fire the
crossbow at the Basilisk. The Basilisk will retreat
after being hit. Run over
to the door on the other side of the walkway then lift
it open.
Don't mess with the crank in the middle of the room
just yet. Break all the
pots in the room then run to the very back and climb
the ladder.
Destroy the
crates then open the --RED CHEST-- on the right and
the --UNMARKED CHEST
(PHOENIX FEATHER [1/19])-- on the left. The left chest
contains a phoenix
feather - every five collected will increase Kratos'
magic gauge.
Climb back down the ladder and walk over to the crank
in the middle of the room
then hold the Circle button near it to grab it and rotate
the crank to make the lift
move downward.
Go all the way to the bottom then move through the tunnel
- hit
the pots along the sides of the tunnel for some extra
red orbs.
SIEGE OF ATTICA
A cutscene will play once Kratos steps out to the open
area ahead. The Cyclops
from the cutscene will attack following the cutscene.
Like in all the other God of War's, these giants only
have one eye and their
attacks are quite brutal. Kratos cannot block any of
their attacks, so they
must be dodged with a roll to the side or in the opposite
direction. Attack
these beasts with Plumes of Prometheus from a distance.
Any distant attacks
will work nicely for a Cyclops. Try to hit them as they
end an attack since
they will have to recover slightly from it.
Always use Plumes of Prometheus from a distance while
fighting these enemies.
None of their punch attacks can be guarded against,
so Kratos will have to
constantly roll away from their attacks while fighting
them. A Plume of
Prometheus will help Kratos to stay at a distance while
attacking and possibly
stagger the Cyclops out of an attack during the explosion
pound at the end of
the combo. Run up to the Cyclops and tap the Circle button
to finish it when it has
a Circle button icon over its head. There is a --GREEN CHEST-- to the left and a --
BLUE CHEST-- directly ahead (and to the right a bit).
Run toward the doorway in the back and lift the door
open.
Archers are down
the walkway up ahead - remember that Kratos can block
their arrows. Move to
the end then defeat all the archers. There is a --SAVE
PILLAR-- off to the
right. Over on the left walkway, open the --RED CHEST-- on the left and the --
UNMARKED CHEST (GORGON EYE [3/21])-- to the right.
Walk up to the half broken ladder on the damaged wall
up ahead then climb it.
Kratos can climb any rough looking walls such as this.
Tap the X button while
moving along the wall to move in that direction faster.
On the walkway above, Persian soldiers will be constantly
moving up the ladders
along the side of the walkway. Kick the ladders down
by approaching them and
then interacting with them much like the ones on the
walkway from before. Run
up the first ramp to the side and defeat the archer.
There is a --BLUE/GREEN
CHEST-- to the side of that walkway. Run back down the
ramp then find the
building with the destroyed bridge.
Hop across the bridge while the archers
are not shooting then defeat the archers on that building.
Open the --RED
CHEST-- and the --UNMARKED CHEST (PHOENIX FEATHER [2/19])-- on the rooftop of
the building then hop back to the walkway you were just
on.
Destroy the wooden wall at the end of the walkway
then pull the switch on the
lift behind it to take the lift down. Walk out to the
marketplace and destroy
all the breakable objects. There is a --GREEN CHEST-- to the right and a --RED
CHEST-- down the street to the left (on the right side).
Run up the stairs and
open the door to the next area.
The Basilisk will drop a body in the cutscene. Don't
worry about the body just
yet. Defeat all the soldiers and archers around the
area. Be sure to climb
the raised area with the building and defeat the archers
there as well as the
arches down the path near the beginning. There is a
--BLUE/GREEN CHEST-- next
to the raised area with the archers, a --RED CHEST-- to the left on the raised
area with the archers, a --RED CHEST-- and another --RED
CHEST-- down an alley
at the very end of the path by the raised area with
the archers.
Find the crate on the far side of the walkway near
the railing
(move against
the camera) then push it over to the path that leads
to a gate. Hold the Circle button to push the crate then hold down on the R button
to charge a kick and
then let go to make Kratos kick the crate in order to
move it faster. Move the
crate on top of the pressure plate in front of the gate
to open the gate.
Run back and pick up the body that the Basilisk dropped.
Push the Circle button
near the body when the button icon pops up in order
to pick it up.
Carry the
body through the newly opened doorway then place it
on the pressure plate past
the first gate
to open another gate to a nearby building. Enter the
building.
Look to the right while entering the building to spot
a --RED CHEST--. Move
down the hall to the left and a --GREEN CHEST-- and
--BLUE CHEST-- will be off
to the left. Be sure to save your game at the --SAVE
PILLAR-- to the right
then continue down the hall up ahead.
Run all the way down the next hall and open the --UNMARKED
CHEST (PHOENIX
FEATHER [3/19])-- against the wall before the turn.
Keep moving down the hall
and open the door at the end. Move out onto the bridge
for a cutscene near the
middle of it.
Attacks:
Bite - Basilisk steps forward with a single bite.
Bite Combo: Basilisk bites to one side then quickly
bites to the other.
Paw Smash - Basilisk leans one of his paws forward and
attempts to smash
Kratos.
Fire Breath - Starting from the right, Basilisk breathes
flames from his mouth
then sweeps the flames toward the area in front of him
with a shockwave of
fire
|
|
|
|
Stay in the middle and face the Basilisk's head.
This will keep him from
trying to smash Kratos with his paw, which is unblockable.
You'll have to roll
away from that move. All of his bite attacks that he
will perform while Kratos
stands in front of his head are blockable, so just remember
to hold the guard
button (L) whenever he moves his head forward to bite.
Sometimes he bites
twice and other times he will only bite once. Whenever
he spreads flames
across the area in front of him, he will always start
from the right, so roll
through the flames as they move toward Kratos or jump
over the flame shockwave
to avoid the fire. This move can also be avoided by
simply using the Demon
Fury (R + Triangle) with The Efreet whenever the flames
move by Kratos - that moment
of invincibility will save him from taking damage and
hurt the Basilisk in the
process.
Attack the Basilisk's head with either a Plume of Prometheus
(Square, Square, Triangle) or
the Square, Triangle combo. Really the Square, Triangle combo works the best here due to not
having much recovery time. Be sure to guard as he steps
forward with a bite
and this battle will go smoothly.
An action sequence will occur throughout this battle
as the Basilisk grabs
Kratos in its jaws:
!!!! = L and R tap
The Basilisk grabs Kratos in its jaws and slams him
against the side wall and
attempts to eat him but Kratos !!STRUGGLES!! with the
beast's mouth and
eventually slams its head into the bridge which causes
it to back away.
The Basilisk will release green orbs and blue orbs
this entire time and it will
release even more after each action cutscene. It will
move back a few steps
after it releases orbs each time. The main objective
during this battle is to
drive the Basilisk in between the two lookout posts
on the sides of the bridge
in the background.
Eventually the Basilisk will retreat to the top of
the wall in the back of the
bridge and it will have a Circle button icon over its right
paw. It will breathe
fireballs at Kratos at this time. Run in a zigzag pattern
toward the Basilisk.
The fireballs that it shoots are not completely aimed
at Kratos, but they will
land near him. The best way to avoid them is to watch
the direction that they
fly downward at and run the opposite way. Keep moving
to different portions of
the bridge as you get close to the Basilisk. Run over
to the right paw on the
left side of the screen and press the Circle button near
it to initiate an action
cutscene.
@@@@ = Analog rotation
Kratos jumps and plunges both of his blades into the
beast's paw then leaps up
onto its head. Kratos stabs its head with the blades
then falls off while the
blades are still connected and then he stands on the
bridge and @@PULLS@@ the
Basilisk off the wall. The Basilisk lands then Kratos
latches onto the side of
the damaged lookout post on the right and pulls the
side of the wall off onto
the Basilisk.
The battle will begin once again the same as before.
Attack the Basilisk until
Kratos drive it in between the lookout post and it will
retreat once again.
Run up to it and grab its right paw on the left for
nother action cutscene -
it's basically the same as before with a slightly different
ending.
Kratos jumps and plunges both of his blades into the
beast's paw then leaps up
onto its head. Kratos stabs its head with the blades
then falls off while the
blades are still connected and then he stands on the
bridge and @@PULLS@@ the
Basilisk off the wall. The Basilisk lands then Kratos
latches onto the side of
the damaged lookout post on the left and pulls the side
of the wall off onto
the Basilisk.
The Basilisk's attacks will intensify quite a bit during
this next phase of the
battle. It will attack much more aggressive and will
only allow Kratos to get
in a few hits before each bite. Be sure to block whenever
it bites and hit it
sparingly with a Square, Square combo every now and
then. It will try to drive Kratos
toward a side so it can smash him with one of its paws,
so just run back in
front of its head when it does so. After a few more
hits - it doesn't take
many more - the Basilisk's mouth will flame up as it
falls and a button icon
appears over its head. Run up to it and press the Circle button to initiate the
final action cutscene for this battle.
++ = Random button press
>><< = Circle button tap
Kratos throws up his blades and grapples the Basilisk's
bottom jaw then pulls
its head down to him. Kratos +STABS+ its jaw as the
Basilisk raises its head
back up and takes Kratos along with it. Kratos +JUMPS+ on its head and tugs on
his left Chaos Blade that is still in the Basilisk's
jaw then sinks the other
Chaos Blade into the right side of the beast's jaw.
Kratos holds the blades
upward then >>PULLS<< upwards and yanks
the chains then breaks the Basilisk
bottom jaw before jumping off.
An FMV will play after the battle.
