Ya I was playing Darkstar One a bit last night and I'm actually liking it. The X Series I had played and was way too tedious. Though today my sights are set on Bulletstorm, which just finished on steam so I came on here to check the boards and my fav threads etc.

Well there are a few Indie Developers creating games under this genre.

Gratitious Space Battles (Or something like it): This has cartoon like 2D graphics but is really fun.

Star Trek DAC: Not sure, but this really is an old school game. Enjoyed it.

Sins of a Solar Empire: One of the best strategy games I have ever played. Not sure if this fits in the genre, but you control space ships.

Space Empires V: Average game, but you may like it.

Life is best for those who enjoy it, difficult for those who analyze it and worst for those who criticize it.

I haven't played it, but there is an indie Babylon 5 flight sim.
In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

Dark Star One, Starlancer and Freelancer were all good but I'm longing for the old Elite style where you actually can go ANYWHERE and land on ANY planet. (gas giants excluded ) I love the thought of controlling your descent into the atmosphere and finding a landing site and then starting mining and taking your cargo to trading stations and accepting missions to kill pirates and upgrading the ship to carry passengers and ...... (ahh reminiscing )

There's a total conversion for Babylon 5 using Freelancer or X-wing: Alliance somewhere on ModDB... Check out Link for upgredes to the Freelancer engine. Link for X-Wing:Alliance.

    Hope this helps.

If you own an ATI card, you might get graphics corruption in XWA even after upgrades. I still can't figure it out and have given up.
