Katana's are all well and good when they're sharp, but once blunted by armour they become pretty useless... a mace or something like it however doesn't lose it's usefulness so easy.
Well the same could apply to most melee weapons. They all age over time and their effectiveness is decreased. Give a man a katana and he'll slash for a day, teach a man how to keep his katana sharp and he'll slash for a lifetime.
Also: Neo's not a fan of killing

Staff
Strong, durable, aims to disarm and disable instead of kill (I'm not much of a fan of killing). Provides the most fluid motion of movements and allows me to cover all sides more swiftly than the other weapons. The weapon discipline allows you better chance to use it with an improvised weapon when situation blocks your normal weapon.
Also has the longest range of all the above weapons when used correctly.

A glaive type weapon. would be a great weapon for the reasons stated above and it would add the killing element that would be required when facing a zombie horde.
