Is there a limit to how many units you can have? I play for hours and hours then all of a sudden in the middle of a battle the game crashes.
Any ideas?

Although there are limits on the number of elite units you may have, there is no hard programmed limit to the number of men that can appear on the field at a time. You could argue that a unit can have no more than 120 men on maximum settings and there can be no more than 40 units (20 for each side), etc. etc. etc., but that isn't your issue. Your issue is computational power. Your PC can only handle so many men, horses, cannonballs, etc. before it just gives up. I have three suggestions:
1: Most simply, just save and exit the game every few hours and reboot the computer. That clears all the various caches and should allow you to play crash free. It has worked for me with dozens of games over many years and several different computers, this one included. A PC well beyond the game's minimum requirements may not need this, but it would seem that yours might.
2: If you must play for hours and hours uninterrupted, then try turning down some of the graphics options such as unit size, particles: things that require more processor than graphics card. To me this diminishes the fun of the game, so I normally go with option 1 when necessary.
3: Buy a much more powerful PC, as indicated earlier.

My system is beyond the games requirements, but I checked the graphics settings and found they where set to custom. I changed it so the game set the graphics and the problem went away. I guess I had something set wrong.
Anyway, THANKS

Well..
When the GFX/Game settings is set to Extreme. If then a battle occour. Lets Say between 8 Full Army's. They all have Max unit amount. That would be: 8 x 20 x 120 = 19200 Units on the map. Then Mostlikeley the game goes down the ****ter.. Sorry for the word, but it makes the point more obious..
So DON'T run the Game at Max setting's if you plan that large a battle..
