Hey ya'll
Question concerning the trainers.
Is there a difference b/w the regular CD and the Steam versions?
IE - If i d/l a trainer here for the regular retain version, will I see anything different/not work on Steam?
Thanks for the assist
Yes there is a big difference between the Retail DVD and the STEAM release of the game.
The Retail DVD comes with the SecuROM 7 protection, while the STEAM release comes with STEAM (Isn't it obvious?)
Eer, I meant as in the function of the trainer =P sorry if I wasn't clear enough
Usually, providing the version is the same, the actual 'interesting gamecode' is the same. So the actual cheat functions tend to work both ways (retail on steam and steam on retail).
However! It's getting increasing common to find certain checks on steam versions of the games. One of the issues with this is that as soon as the steam version detects code changes (as a result of a trainer as one example) the game will crash/freeze. So this is something which needs to be circumvented in addition to the hard work of getting the trainer options done. The amount of checks etc vary between games. Some don't have them at all. I'm not 100% sure myself whether this is some side-effect of something known as CEG/Steamworks, which is a method Valve use to allow third-party developers to distribute/protect their games using their service.
Whatever, the case, always grab the right version trainer from the list. You may get away with doing it another way if there is a lack of a certain trainer, but don't count on it.
