Hi I've recently dug out my gameboy advance along with my pokemon gold game. However, it's not saving properly, well at all. I've started a new game 3 times now and it just does not save. Any ideas as to whether its the game? or the gameboy? or am I doing something wrong? I'm literally just pressing save, waiting for it to finish and then turning it off! And turning it back on to find my only option is to start a new game AGAIN!

It's probably the cartridge. Some parts in that cartridge seem to be in faulty. Probably because of its age and you may kept it at the wrong place. Too much pressure applied on that cartridge is not a good thing or perhaps, it was exposed to an extreme heat. Your solution would probably get a new one. Though i won't deny the chances of getting it repaired.

So you're saying it's the gameboy itself? Cos i've saved other games such as Sabrina the Teenage Witch (oh dear i know) and it saved successfully...

No, it's the game. The "Gold" cartridge. Your Gameboy should be fine if you can play other games and save without having to start again.

That's a place to start, or you could ask around at games store. Who knows they might still have the game.

I have much experience with this. Getting a new cartridge will not help. The gold/silver cartridges have a battery inside them (which powers the in-game clock and also holds save files). Like all batteries, it dies after a few years.
Because gold/silver cartridges are no longer in development, buying a new one will only give you another dead battery. So, you must replace the battery. It's very simple. Any generic watch will contain the battery you need, and after that it's just a matter of replacing the battery (for which you'll need a screwdriver and a soldering iron). After that, you can start a new game and saving should work fine.
