    Running this with

    XPS 630i
    q9450 quad core, 2.66GHz
    4GB ram
    9800 GT sli
    32-bit vista
    750 psu
    22" widescreen monitor
    nvidia nforce 650i mobo
    PCI Express x16 (2 slots).

Ran this first time default settings and froze on the loading screen. Ran it again with everthing at the lowest possible settings on 1680*1050. Ran good until a bit after the nightclub shootout and after the sentry gun battle, then after a 3 second burst, the game froze. Is the game badly optimised or what?

So I've been thinking of upgrading my gpu anyway, so what card do people recommend to upgrade to, including a possible psu upgrade also? What card would my system support? I see the GTX280 requires a minimum 550 w psu, What card in the 200 range would you recommend? I hear that only Nvidia's 7x0, AMD's 7x0, and Intel's X38/X48 have PCIe 2.0 compatibility so does that mean I'm not able to upgrade?

Before you upgrade your computer and spend a lot of time and money. Try upgrading the drivers on you graphics card, sound card, motherboard ect. You can check for updates by going to my computer right click on the icon on the next screen in the upper left hand corner you will see advanced settings click it and select the tap hardware and click on device manager this should bring up a list of all components in your computer click on them one at a time to select the option check for updates. Also I would try to run this game in compatibility mode for XP right click the game select properties and choose run in compatibility mode and choose windows xp. Hope this helps

the game is good graphics but it takes a lot to run it good!
1st problem might be you screen resolution! it is very high which might make a bit of a problem for the graphic card and cpu to run!
2nd problem...it depends if you run the game on dx 9 or 11!
if dx11 it is also making it hard for the system to take!
3rd problem..try run as administrator! and also try to defrag and delete unused games and files and programs!
4th problem could be the cpu is only a 2.66 ghz as you say!
are you sure because if it is something that the computer told you then it might only be a 1.66 ghz because that vista has made a mistake where the system some times makes 1 ghz more then the real ghz!

my best guess of the correct problem would possibly be that your resolution is too high! and that it also is bad scaled!
try run as 1600X1024 or as 1600X1200 thoose might make it better!

Upgrading a 9800GT for a Game???OMG,completely unnecesary.I run it on max with 60+ fps with: dual core Intel @ 2.5Ghz,GTS 250 1GB,4GB RAM.The game is just buggy.i had same freezing issues and crashes as you.just dont start the game with desctop icon,go into game folder and start the game with: AvP.exe (Not AvP_Launcher or AvP_DX11!!)that solved my problems, and also solved crashing a game when u turn on flashlight with marine.
    My Rig:
    Intel Dual Core E5200 @ 2.5Ghz
    4GB 800Mhz Kingston RAM
Gainward Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256 bit
    Samsung Spinpoint F3 1000GB HDD
    550W PSU

Make sure all your drivers are up to date!

    Also a gaming tip.

DONT HAVE YOUR REZ THAT HIGH! 1024 x 768 is perfect. Trust me I been gaming and working on customs for 17 years now. Judging on your other hardware there it seems fine.

Personaly AMD is not what it used to be! I was a loyal follower. Now am intel as they have gotten way better.

Now if your over clocking then AMD are best for that! Graphics Nividia I say. But am runing a ATI and its fine

Never ask me tech spec's! Why cause I know what looks good! Pritty much can tell straight away! So al just say off if you do!

Its gotta be your drivers. You cpu and gpu are more than enough.
    my set up is

    OS: Win7 64-bit
    CPU: Phenom 9950 (2.7)
    RAM: Corsair 4096mb
    MB: Gigabite MA790FX-DQ6
    GPU: x2 HD4890 XFire

Running at 1920x1080 at max detail steady at 110fps (Have to Vsinc to 60 due to tearing)

The 4890 isn't a great step up from the 9800GT and your running SLI. Download the latest drivers and you should be fine.

My only dislike about the game is its either DX9 or DX11 wtf happened to DX10. DX9 needs to be forgotten not 10.
