ok, I'm running the game on my not-so-high-end machine (x2 4400, rd3870 512, 3gb ram)under dx9/xp in 1920*1200. I started modest with everything on medium and 4xAA/AF (AA doesn't seem to work anyway). The game runs 25-30 fps until enemies appear, then it drops like hell. I got the tweak tool and fiddled with the options. Just for fun, I put everyhing on high with 16xAA/AF and -wtf- game looks awesome and still does 25 fps; until enemies appear. I put everything on low, game looks like crap, does 30 fps and guess what, yeah right, lags when enemies appear. This drives me nuts

Might be your 4400er AMD. Considered an upgrade to an X2 6000 ? Costs about 44€ here in Germany.
Ever tried overclocking to test if it increases playability ?

thats the bottleneck, I know. But I have 939 socket, no upgrade here (there will be a replacement soon). Is it possible to remove shadows completely? Kinda reminds me of GTA4 where u had to experience those crappy shadows up to the fourth patch. It would also help to remove fog volumes and smoke.

BC2 Specs:
Minimum Hard Drive Space : 10GB Operating System : Windows XP Processor : Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz RAM : 2GB Video Card : GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900
Recommended Hard Drive Space : 10GB Operating System : Windows Vista or Windows 7 Processor : Quadcore RAM : 2GB Video Card : GeForce GTX 260
I'm running a Q6600 (quad core). 4GB DDR2, Wins 7 (64Bit), ATI 5870. 90FPS with DX11 enabled, all settings enabled/on high (including AA/AS) BUT WITH HBAO OFF (Its a FPS killer, and only makes shadows look more "Real" ). In intense battles it drops to no lower then 50 FPS with the settings above.
