Every time I tell him to enter the purifier and enter the code, he spouts some nonsensical philosophical bull**** about it being my destiny to be melted into a small pile of irradiated goo that makes me want to tear his face off.

I have Broken Steel installed and it is working, evidenced by the fact my character is level 21 and I can see the BS perks in the selection menu. Game is patched to 1.7.

Is he your only follower? Not including Dogmeat?

Yes. He is my only follower, including Dogmeat.

What mods are you using?

There was a mod conflict detector for Oblivion, so I assume there is one out there for Fallout 3 considering the utilities are usually interchangeable.

There is a conflict detector for Fallout, but it's not user friendly in any sense of the word.

My guess is it's something you're using thats interacting with Broken Steel, and the main quest line doesn't recognize it.

Try hiring another radiation-proof follower, like Charon, and see if it does the same thing.

Couldn't you just turn off the mods, complete that part of Broken Steel, and then turn them back on?

Might not work, I haven't tried mixing mods and DLC yet.

You can only get Fawkes to enter the purifier with Broken Steel installed.
