I've been havin the same problem, then i realize that in the troubleshooting guide there is a part that say to try runnin the game first, then the trainer. And it worked for me. Run the game os Steam, load your saved game, alt+tab back to the desktop and run the trainer. Back to the game, hit F1 and the options. It worked for me.

You said that steam patches your software automatically? I noticed a new patch available notification on my ME2 so perhaps you have 1.02 ?

As far as I know there is no 1.02, 1.01 is the only offical patch.. DA I only get trainer cannot find game, even if I stop at the main menu and hit the F1. I have been playing ME2 with the original unpatched version and the original trainer and have had NO problems with it. Now I can't even get the trainer to reconize the game is running, NO Antivirus, NO antispywar/adware installed, no Windows firewall, defender is the only program running that I think can interfere, stopped the service and tried it with same results. Have tried setting the compatiblity to windows Vista, all sp's and XP sp3 with the same results.
WEll, as wierd as this seems it was the downloaded file for the trainer that was the issue. Seems wierd now a days to get a corrupted download.
