it doesnt lock achivements, only in GTA IV thats it
The whole life is a choice. Do that, this and that you decide, don't let people down your choices just because you are "helper" (you help very much) it doesn't means that you have to stop it. Stay Original, yourself.

I did not know about them at all and I have had the game from the start. Probably cause I play the game for the game and not the achevments.
