This is with the Steam release and using the correct trainer. It worked until the latest update to the game - which I found a trainer for on the site here and it has since vanished (?).

This game has not been updated. You must be talking about Mass Effect 1, not 2.

The patch he is probably talking about is the Mass Effect 2 Crossfire Hotfix Patch that was released on the 29th.
