E.g., In some dialogs I can't even see the characters' faces because they are all in the shadow, menues are fine, subtitles are bright, ... Maybe I messed up some of the shadow/lighting options, I had the same prob in Batman AA, same engine. Ingame was fine but in the cutscenes I could barely see the characters.

Many videoes are dark, but not as dark as you describe it. For me it merely made the faces look a bit odd and dark.
