Correct me if I'm wrong.

But is Ferelden say...Britain, Antiva is Russia, and Orlais France?

Well it's hard to determine what Ferelden is, the closest might be the USA in the time of it's birth. The whole slavery abolishment, occupied by a foreign force, discrimination against elves and such. As for Antiva, more like Italy in it's young, debauched ways and no Pope. Orlais is indeed France. Navarre I supposedly something like Spain, Anderfels something like the Holy Roman Empire in a weird sense, I haven't read anything on Seheron, Par Vollen is something like an Ottoman Empire and Rivain is the African part of the Ottoman Empire where people were converted to the Qun.

from what i've read it should be a fairly long expansion

Very excited for this. Finally finished the game and realized how many different ways the game can finish. This has been my all time favorite RPG and I'd love being able to continue with my characters. I'm starting again and I'm going to try to get every available mission I can. Hopefully that will keep me busy until March!

Just finished my second playthrough and now I find this.

I love biowares RPGs, cannot wait for Mass Effect 2, gonna be so awesome.

Yeah no doubt. The "Sacred Ashes" 4 minute cinematic short is completely badass and is the best out of all of them. Most of them can be found in HD, here: Link

I recommend checking out the Blood Dragon trailer and the Grey Wardens trailer also.
