I have a Compaq 2600 XP processor with Geforce2 128 8x agp 512 and I have not had one problems. Even with downloaded buildings and what not. I suggest you renstall and it wouldnt hurt to upgrade ram and video card to atleast Geforce 3 or 4 or ATI but beware of ATI I have had numerous compadibility issues with ATI cards. I recommend ATI with Intel system Geforce for AMD system.

It's probably your RAM, try upgrading that, and nvidia doesn't suck, ATI is basically the same, it's just personal preference. But, upgrade your video card.
