Thought it was/is a great game and probably one of my better purchases this year game wise. Though to each there own.
The only few things i didnt like was there was not a massive variation of armor/robes/weapons they all had a similar look and not alot that made you think " OMFG" ie most all mage robes looked well fail?
It is after all a fantasy game and well maybe a masssive great sword that looked like it has slaughter'd a 1000 enemys before rather than the sorta blandish looking weapons.
Story wise it was great from the first 5 mins (playing as human rogue) i wanted to keep playing to get to know the other characters untill the end when she did what she did.
Also it doesnt really leave me a lot of replay value. As after the 2nd playthrough i have experinced pretty much everything there is to offer but of course there is a lot of moders and most likely exspansions hopefully.
Pretty much agree with shavako hit it on the head.

I agree I played it for the thrill of knowing the characters and events around me unfolding but once the 2nd playthrough is over you pretty much expereinced it all .
Well I belive more random drops would have been nice.. As you said "Shavako", the only reason for killing everything is because they will otherwise be in your way. Bosses rarely drop anything good, and if they do, then they anyway only drop equip that is much worse then the stuff that YOU ALWAYS get. For example Juggernaut set, Dragon scales, Warden Armor. Those are the best sets there is... Pretty much anyway. So even if a boss drops a heavy plate mail they suck compared to the quest loot. If they would have had random rare drops plus import/export, that would have been a big reason for me playing it over and over again!
Something that I also liked in BG2 is in which way the faces were added. I mean the faces were made as ARTS, and thats a lot better then using the face of the characters 3D.
(This I mean particularily when it came to your companions).
Off course its a 3D world right now, but I still think they could have used art portraits as well!
I believe they dedicated BG2 to, "Daniel Walker", and he was the second employee of Bioware. It states so in the BG2 manual.
I know its not fair comparing Dragon Age with BG2 because lets be honest, nothing beats the story in BG2 and the way the whole game was created! EPIC!

Agreed BG2 was truly a western rpg epic.
It should have been so in DaO too but they missed a lot of important features which I believe EA had a lot to do with the lack there of. EA are screwballs with odd perceptions of how games should be finished and theyre also screwing people over with the "online" requirment for command and conquer 4. EA only wants money for awfull games or games with DLC that wont work and only have 5-15minutes of content for $7! BAH
BG2 was a great game and had better loot n rewards.
Heres a quote for the upcoming DLC for DaO:
"Update: Some quick comments from BioWare's Rob Bartel on the official forums:
Sorry, no waffles but there will be some voicework, including from the followers. We put a particular focus on the various followers who were also present at the battle. As for precisely when it will come out, we don't have a specific answer to that yet which is why we're being vague. We're still tackling one last optimization issue and then we need to make it through final testing and certification across all three platforms.
Average playtime is always tough to pin down because everyone's mileage will vary (and developers player the game in a very different manner than a typical first-time player). I can do a speed run (skipping through conversations and cutscenes, using a buff party, controlling Dog, avoiding some combats, ignoring loot drops, not looking at the scenery, etc) in about 15-20 minutes. I suspect it would take a typical first-time player about an hour to complete."
