Tired of Steam updates breaking your trainers?
This is a basic tutorial on how to disable automatic updates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Steam).
Step 1 Go to "My Games" tab in Steam
Step 2 Right click "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"
Select "Properties"
Step 3 Go to "Updates" tab
Select "Do not automatically update this game"
NOTE: DO NOT hit the "X" to close the window, use the "Close" button.

Not to mention Steam has a nasty habit of changing that on its own. Just installed the game today and didn't know about the patch, used trainer and it crashed. Went ahead and uninstalled the game and changed its properties in steam to tell it not to auto patch. When i reinstalled it steam automatically reset the don't update switch. I managed to catch it during the install and again told it to not update (yes I thought I had outsmarted the bastards). Played the game with the trainer and everything was cool, reset the computer, launched game from the icon, and the damn thing was again switched back on and had been patched... god i hate steam

Trying to diable the automatic updates on steam doesn't work, it will reset it back to the default setting so it can apply the update. I have tried 5 times and it has been switched back to the default setting!! Plus not only that the Mega Trainer doesn't work anymore!!

I can confirm that the auto-update setting resets (reactivates) itself.
Sorry guys... back to the drawing board.
I suspect the auto-update selection is reset for games after any Steam "platform" update as well.
