I'm desperate here people. I bought the PC version in DVD form and I'm unable to install the game off the disk or the digital download version. The installer cuts out at the 25% mark on the first file with a data error. EA Support has been useless in getting to the bottom of the problem. They keep telling me to re-download the game until I am no longer getting corrupted files. At over 5 hours per download that is too much time that I don't have. I've also tried copying the entire contents of the DVD to both internal hard drives and my external unit. I was able to copy files off the DVD to my hard drives with no problems ie, no errors or corrupted files but once again the installation failed part way through. I can't return the game for a full refund either as it is against store policy. If I can't get this working I'm out over $60.
I also had the same problem with Mass Effect for the PC, something about this same installer EA is using is not compatible with my system. Ironically I bought ME off of Steam last weekend for only $10 and I had no problems installing and playing their version.
Can anyone help me out here?

try disabling the BITS background downloader service of windows....i get corrupt file problems with the EA download manager and the Impulse download manger that are fixed by disabling that.
also try temporarily disabling all firewall and anti-virus software, and anything else that reads data...sometimes disabling autoplay can help

Thanks for the BITs suggestion but when I checked the service was not running. I also make it a point to turn off all my anti-virus and programs running in the background when installing games. I use a handly little freeware ap called "End-it-all" that turns off all (non-critical) programs running in the background.
I actually might be onto something I tried running the (autorun) installer using Vista SP2 mode and the installation went further than it ever had before to the 78% mark (always cut out at 25% before) but once again it got hung up on one file and gave me a data error.

disable the service....not auto not manual....just to be sure it doesn't turn on...
and if its vista try running the installer as admin...
hmm...what else....mainly just make sure any services designed to "monitor" other applications....like liscensing software...are set to disable (and not running) during install....
don't forget to disable firewalls....windows firewall included....
also some applications have problems with path name lengths....its the main problem people have had with the toolset anyways....so make sure the path to the install folder is less than 52 characters....incase of non standard install paths...
if you are running a raid volume, that can cause problems sometimes too.....same kind as a download manager would...
um...auto defrag apps are bad too...definatly dont run a defrag while downloading...and if you have an active defrag setup (like windows vista supposedly does) then that might need to be disabled
other than that it might just be the EA downloader having problems...i remember that with spore i had to download an iso image to get it to install....and just did a legitimate registration and update....
the problems with the EA downloader have something to do with a 2gb file limit....either with the downloader or with the filesystem...not sure which
if you are able to contact EA support maybe ask for a direct download link....
