My copy of DAO finally came in the mail today. I was overjoyed, and couldn't wait to play it. Installed the game, downloaded the 1.1 patch, and hit my first problem...game wouldn't start now O_o After searching around, I found that I had to install the VB C++ 2005 stuff. Ok, w/e. On to the DLC.
Second problem. Their website tried telling me that my login info was incorrect...I'd just logged into their site not 2 hours prior, getting my account ready for DAO. Now, suddenly, it won't work. Reset the password, yadda yadda, and finally logged in.
I finally type in the codes for the DLC, and started the game...DLC downloaded, but wouldn't install. After spending almost an hour trying to find a way to fix this, I finally uninstall the game and retry. This time, I loaded it up in v1.0, and the DLC finally installed properly. How dumb.
I open up the config tool, and set everything to MAX...after seeing the awesome trailers on TV, I'm expecting orgasmic eye candy...instead, I get something that's only very slightly better than NVN2. Really? It's 2009, and Bioware releases something that looks WORSE than Mass Effect, which came out years earlier? Give me a freaking break. Low-res textures, non-existent shadows...at least the people move (more or less) properly...and the facial expressions are curiously funny. Also, I rolled a female char, and the blood dragon armor looks HORRENDOUS on her. Looks like she's over bloated, about ready to explode. I seriously hope someone mods that.
The character creation was pretty good, although it just didn't have the options you'd expect, ala Oblivion, or to some extent, Mass Effect.
The music was really easy to listen to, and the sound effects seemed to be really nice, although I'd just completed the first 'intro' area. (Human Noble)
The story...the dialogue...could they get ANY more freaking generic? Holy cow, I felt like I was playing any number of RPGs again. If this game isn't just another RPG clone, I don't know what is.
All in all, I'd give this game a 5/10. Way, WAY overhyped. I think bioware really dropped the ball this time, although it could have something to do with the fact that there's an EA logo attached to this game >.>
I spent the megabucks to get the Collector's Edition on overnight shipping...I think I could've waited for value shipping on a regular edition. I'm sure the game is fun, and the story is intriguing, so I'll plod through it. It IS a bioware game, afterall.
