maybe theres an option for speeding up, modifying the oriental ships, since the ai never produces those types?
where did you find the assets file, i cant find it anywhere in the directory, or in my profile folders?

BTW anyone know a way of modifying the save files, whilst keeping the structure intact. Parts of the save are in plain english so i opened in notepad and saved in its original format, but then it wouldn't load. I then tried hexworkshop, but still it messed up the save. It could just be what i modified, but all i did to test was change my credits?

To get access to the assets.xml file you need to first follow WOOLF's intructions on unpacking. Now once you have the data folder you made which you unpacked everything into you go into data/config/game and the assets.xml file is in there. Also one tip for anyone who is interested since asking if the changes made to the assets.xml file affect everyone including computer players i found out that they do in fact affect them. So i found an alternative to make your ships strong go to data/config/features and open the file features in there you will find the values for the ship items now what you could do is search for the word value and modify the values for different items(like instead of 10% speed increase you could put 100%, and instead of 25% vision you could put 10000, etc..)
Hope that helps

Here as accorded and already requested the translation from Woofs "Shipyard customization mod"
sorry for the delay in translating but I had some forced days offline
the first step would be to download the golden ship under the following Link then just decompress it as it is into the main game directory of anno1404. the next step is to search for the engine.ini.
win-xp users can find it here:
"c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\applicationdata\ubisoft\anno1404\config\"
under vista or win-7 the path should be the following:
there you just have to change one single value "PreferLocalFiles 0 PreferLocalFiles" into "PreferLocalFiles 1 PreferLocalFiles" .
now anno starts using the data folder with higher priority than the files in maindata. This allows you to use own customizations.
for those interested in it Woof has provided a mod allowing you to play the silver ship, too. this means it can be build in the small shipyard instead of the small cargo vessel. it is a little faster and can defend itself. It has 3 cargo bays as the cargo ship does.
To use it you will have to create some more folders as the silver ship is not as easy to replace as the golden one. as the silver one can be produced Woolf had to change som scripts for the shipyard. otherwhise it would have been an old shaby cargo ship with default speed and without weapons but differing look.
either you extract it "as is" or you create your own folders manually.the easiest way would just to extract it as the default folder structure is already saved in the zip.
so every one have fun using the new ships
Again sorry for the delay and thanks woolf.
Great work

HI ALL, I did WOOLF's post about unpacking all the files in the maindata folder and now my game wont start. Trying to figure out what I did wrong. He says to create a new folder called data in anno1404 directory. Is this where the maindata folder is or where the engine.ini folder is? Where the maindata folder is there is already a folder called data in there do I save all the files in that folder? I made a new folder where the maindata folder is and named it data1 because of the data folder that is already there. I changed the name of the maindata folder to maindata-old I changed the engine.ini to 1 and replaced the ships folder to. But the game still did not start. If I change the maindata-old folder back to maindata then the game starts as normal. What did I do wrong? Any help would be great.
