Whats the point of making a savegame file in your my documents if it doesn't contain you save game data...
I just reinstalled Windows thinking that my progress in FUEL would be ok as the save game was in the my documents folder (which is on another drive but windows points to it as the default location)
But you think it would pick up an continue..No. So I deleted the old save (after backing it up) Created a new offline profile in the game, which made a new save, copied my old save over the top of that. and guess what, didn't make a difference...Still at the beginning of the game with nothing completed. I was at least 60% through too...
Any ideas (Plus a word of warning) I really hate GFWL....

GFWL thing is the worst ever system I've ever seen, you can't backup your savegames at all, even if you know where they are kept. They did place some files that seems to be related to the save in the "My Documents\My Games\Fuel" folder but I really doubt it can be used after a reinstall of Windows, mostly you have to start everything from scratch, did it 3 times already with GTAIV and now on Fuel I guess whe're doomed thanks for the trainers that usually are quite helpfull when you have to start from scratch.

Games for windows live alters the savegame location. The developers of FUEL would have coded some 'normal' location such as a simple folder in My Docs for example. However, when integrated with xlive, this location changes on a per-profile basis. It's not just the save situation though, there are many other functions of GFWL which are just a pain.
If there is nothing in "My Documents\My Games\Fuel", try looking in: "\Documents and Settings\~user~\Application Data\FUEL" (assuming XP - Vista will be similar, but under Appdata\Local etc)

In "Documents and settings\Myusername\Application data\Fuel\" there's nothing but cache related files, none of them are related to the savegames at all, or maybe they are but there's so many of them in there and they look like cache data. I suspect they are hidden the same way as GTAIV in a GFWL folder with a strange string of numbers in the folder.

I can not find where it stores the save games at all.
There is on in the My Documents\My Games\ folder but you can delete it and your progress stays the same (Up to the 3rd camp again). But get this, it doesn't create another save in that folder unless you select save from the menu.
So I'd say GFWL was an after thought for the game designer, clearly it was program to store games in my documents folder until Microsoft got their hands on it.

Not really surprising at all, I just can't understand why Microsoft didn't allow us to backup our progress and came with the clear idea to hide all the save files somewhere where no one can see clearly where they are stored (first you need to see hidden and system files to reach the folder where I think its stored) then even if you backup thoses files, they are linked to a unique name each time you create a new account (online or offline) in GFWL even with the exact same name for the profile ans account, the name of the folder where its stored has a different name and each file is controlled and some specific data is added to the savegame based on the unique name of the folder, so even if you manage to put them back on, when the check happen, the game will say its invalid since its not the same files.

Stop using offline profiles then, use an online one and you can back up save files just fine.

You can't backup online profiles at all, I had completed a load of GTAIV and had to reinstall my computer, even with my online profile everything was lost, I tried to restore my savegame but it didn't work, same thing apply to Fuel.
