In my experience, the game is just as random as the board game and the AI if anything makes too many dumb mistakes for my liking – though I’m only playing on medium at the moment. I am absolutely destroying the computer though so I’ll probably bump up the difficulty soon.

Blood Bowl is HARD. The whole ethos of the game is “Why fight a fair fight when you can fight an unfair one?”

I played the tabletop game a bit but until you play a lot of games on a computer version you don’t realise how tough the odds are for the team with the ball. This is completely intentional. Most basic single dice rolls in the game have at least a 1 in 6 or often 1 in 3 chance of ending your turn immediately. These are terrible odds and most experienced players won’t chance any action unless the chances of failure are at least 1 in 12 with a reroll unless they have done every other ‘safe’ action first.

Blocking is probably the biggest danger area and the reason why Block is the best skill in the game. By itself it halves the chance of a turnover on any block. Making a tackle with a player that doesn’t have block – regardless of the number of dice should be regarded with great suspicion and is best left till the end of the turn – if done at all.

Look for every possible way to use safe actions to make risky actions easier. Maximise your assists before blocking. Use a safe block to push opposing players away before making a risky pickup. Most of all – use your time. Don’t go for that Hail Mary pass if you’ve got 6 turns remaining.

These factors work for you in your opponents turn as well. Support your ball carriers and force your opponents to dodge around your players. Sometimes it’s better to avoid making a block in your turn and force your opponent to do it theirs or make a risky dodge instead.

Finally Blood Bowl has ALWAYS been lethal. Sometimes you just get unlucky and lose half your team in the first two matches. Be prepared to start a new team if your first one gets pounded early.

In my Expierence of Blood Bowl i have had to make over 30 new teams to experiment on what would happen on each race against each other...
