In this game and most RPG's you need good equipement an characteristics.
in this particular game the attack and defence characteristics are of paramount importance, the first is relevant to your chance to hit your enemy, the second is how hard it is for your enemy to hit you, so get those two as hig as possible, without going nuts and neglecting everything else, another thing that is very important but not often tought of and i also was surprized to hear that life leatching was not very usefull and it was not possible to have enough lifeleach to counter the bosses' blows, WRONG! i have a level 82 Seraphim and i am in pletinum diff and i leach my enemies enough that i only needed to use 4 or 5 healing potions mostly in the begining.
Skills, there are many skills in this game, some are great some suck, you should have a weapon lore skill that matches your character and your style of play, if you use the Seraphim, like me you should have the "sword weapon" skill as soon as you get to level 2, while the Shadow Warrior should have the "hafted weapon" skill, and the Driad should have the "ranged weapon" skill, and they should not take another weapon skill, then "armor lore" ...
Skills you should get as you progress:
Dual Weilding, or shield lore, if you use 2 weapons or a shield instead, but not both skills, neither if you use 2 handed weapons.
Speed lore, Walk & run faster, attack faster, increased attack & defence, need i say more?
Toughness, damage reduction, and elemental resistance to all 4 damage types, helps live longer.
Anyway read all the skill's description you may be pleasanty surprized by some but not all, and the "devine devotion" skill is supposed to unlock additionnal bonuses, well maby in the future but not yet, it does make the "divine gift" regen faster though.
