We've updated this 2 year old game *21* times so far. Unfortunately we cannot support every game indefinitely without charging about $200/year for a membership instead of $40/year, which obviously no one would pay. When we start getting comments calling us "lazy" for not updating the game on the same day that patches for over *20* other games came out, then it really starts pushing the game towards the retirement column.
This is where you set personal feelings aside and act professionally. Can you imagine if someone, as a random example Gabe Newell - a man who likely receives as many pieces of bile-filled hatemails as he does ones that glowingly praise his work and business, were to suddenly say "oh, x amount of people hate this/are calling me disparaging names/etc. so I think I'll discontinue the series... that'll show 'em" - how would that serve as a reflection of not only him but his entire company?
One smartass mouthing off does not speak for numerous others who appreciate your work enough to pay your membership fees. If you're truly getting swamped then fine - I can see just cause for you wanting to retire it but, with all respect due, don't make a decision based on a single negative viewpoint.
