Does anyone out there have any fixes to prevent this older game from crashing in XP sp3? The compatibility options have been attempted, but my game oomes to a complete hault after the Lionhead Logo disolves. After searching through many forums, the answers have all been related to earlier XP service packs, and much older video cards... not that mine is not aging as well. All of the system's drivers are up to date. The only thing that I have noticed is that the games auto-detect system thinks that my CPU runs at -1296 mhz (as opposed to the 333 mhz required). Is there anyway to trick the game into thinking that my CPU "meets the PCU requirements."
My basic system specs are as follows.
OS: Microsoft Windows XP3 AV & Firewall: Norton 360 v. 3.0 CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.66ghz (OC @ 3.1ghz) RAM: OCZ 4gig @ 915mhz VPU: ATI Radeon x1900xtx @ 512mb

You have to run the game with a single core of your CPU.
I cant say where you can get an application (dont think linking to other sites will be good here) which will do this for you. But look up oneprocessorlaunch on google or something
And if you find it, do read the instructions!
But also install the latest patch which is 1.2 i think. As 1.3 is for the glove thing :P

Brother, your suggestion saved the day! In the long run, I didn't even end up utilizing TippeX's program, but it lead me down the path of "setting affinity." Being new to multiple core processors, I had no idea this was even possible. After some trial and error Black & White is finally running when I set the processor affinity from CPU 0 to CPU1. This was done for both system processes that run once you start up B&W. Ultimately, you pointed me in the right direction, and I am most appreciative, DABhand.
I love it when I learn new tricks
