I'd r8 it 8/10! and that's cuz Im a Huge fun of Rid****! I really love Chronicles of Rid****: Assault on Dark Athena, but.. I know that its never been done before in video games.. but playing Butcher Bay in AoDA, feels like Im playing the 2004 version of the game in HD (which what basically is!) it was an awsome game (EfBB) and it's nice keeping it that way.. Why refresh the game? Have they run out of ideas? -no.. then why would they make the AoDA as part of the game? Why include a HD version of a past game and a new game in a single DVD? Why not expand more AoDA?🤔
sorry man.. I just got a little carried away with my complain.. anyway..
Gameplay-the gameplay is quite good.. Its a stealth/action/fsp kind of game..stealth systems work like a charm! sneaking in 1st person was never that much fun as in Chronicles of Rid****: Assault on Dark Athena. The shooting part, though, of the game is kinda lame though.. Weapons tend to feel kinda weak.. there is not much of a variety of ranged weapons, and the weapon fun wears out quickly..!
Graphics-(as I said b4..) they kinda look like the 2004 but in HD.. the shadows blend smoother.. small graphical tweaks have been taken care off.. and some textures (costumes of guards prisoners and other people have slightly changed..) so did the enviroment! In AoDA though.. the graphics look a lot better! The movement animation though has not changed! If you've experiensed the 2004 version of the game you won't see any major differences in the animation part of the game..
Sound- nothing new.. same gunshouts, same knife slashing, same punch noises, same screams, same voices.. only in the AoDA part of the game it changes a bit.. (and that's on the voice part of the game..:P) on the other hand.. The sound blends in quite well with the whole "sneaking" action ant the tension in every room..!
Story- Chronicles of Rid****: Assault on Dark Athena is basically two games in 1. Chronicles of Rid****: Escape from Butcher Bay, and Chronicles of Rid****: Assault on Dark Athena. the 1st game (which is the improvment of the 2004 version) is basically Rid**** trying to escape from a high security prison in outer space..! The dirt, the tension, the gangs, the deals, the entire atmosphere feels like a real life prison! Its a really fun game so for spoiling reasons Im not gonna give anything up!
I Highly recommend buying the game! (it's not a game for renting it will take more than a week to get bored of punching the others in mellee combat and watch their faces how they bruise!:cool

AoDA is not as golden as Escape from Butcher Bay was when it came out in 2004. If you didn't play EfBB, it's included and has been tweaked using the new Athena engine.
The hand-to-hand combat is exceptionally well done. Breaking necks, stabbing guards in the armpit, or dropping down on them from above are all very satisfying. There are some impressive disarming moves too. There is a lot of backtracking over great distances - I don't mind it, but some people will - and it's easy to get turned around in some of the crate-filled areas.
The voice acting and the sound effects are quite good, with a surprising amount of variety. The lip syncing is off here and there in some of the cut scenes. The graphics are good, but there's nothing groundbreaking about them, nothing we haven't seen in any recent game worth its salt.
I found the story adequate, but not as engaging as the storyline in Escape from Butcher Bay.
It's short, but I enjoyed it enough to wish it were longer, and will play it through again.

I was going to buy this game until atari confirmed that the drm on this title is you are only allowed to install the game 3 times then you have to buy a new copy, no revokes of installs etc unless you call a premium rate number and can prove that you need another install. Forget that.
They are also not planning on releasing it on steam etal which bypasses this farcical trend of late.
Are they trying to get people to pirate their games?

"The protection on the PC version of The Chronicles of Rid****: Assault on Dark Athena is an activation system with online authentication required the first time you install the game on a machine. The activation code lets you install the game on up to 3 machines, with an unlimited number of installs on each assuming that you don't change any major hardware in your PC or re-install your operating system."

Generally, the whole point of re-installing is due to an OS modification (reformat).

well now that we know the protection works........ maybe they'll be able to release the dreaded Mysteries of Westgate that they have lied to us about

@ jackcrackerman - Understood. Reformatting is frequent for most of us. I simply posted the Atari quote for clarification. Regardless of my personal irritation over attempted protection methods, I think it is important to provide accurate information, and 3 installs is not the same as unlimited installs on three machines. Imo, it would be best if they just sold me the game with its cd code and let me decide when and where to install the game.
@ bryanskrantz - Wouldn't that be a novelty? Though, I'm not going to count on it.
@ BeLGaRaTh67 - STEAM would have been great, too bad they aren't providing the option.
