Yes, You are required to edit the XML files that correspond to the ship EX: want your capitals to die? Edit the capital ships XML file find their shields and health value and lower it.
Back up the XML files after you find the value you want. If you loose it then your going to have to re-edit it over again, and changing the wrong value can cause the game to act strange in some cases.
