A little, yeah.
For pirates at least. What about the rest of us who like to keep our discs in mint condition so that they're worth more than fifteen cents when we sell them?
EA has apparently has a way to stop groups like Razor911 and the like from making .EXE's that can play without the CD. nothing's gonna prevent procryon from making a no-cd though.
That's almost as wrong as can be.
LotR: Conquest contains SecuROM protection, which was cracked by RZ1911, although EA had included some custom triggers, in addition to the ones used by default in a SecuROM protected game. This resulted in an effect EA intended for the user when the user tries to run the game with a modified .exe. (Without removing the custom triggers, that is.)
RZ1911 removed the custom triggers within a day of the original no-dvd release, so it may now be fully playable without the disc. (I hate optical media.)
And for the record, Procyon makes clonecd/clonedvd (which isn't clonedvd but emudvd, google it for more info), and no cracks at all.
