During gameplay I have found a number of small portals but I can' t activate them. Is there something I am missing here?

To my knowledge, you need a portal rune.
It's been over a year since I played but I recall having a similar problem. Too many portals, not enough runes, and I don't know how to get the runes either.

Most of the runes I have come across are dropped by quest givers or bosses. Which ones are you having problems with, maybe I can give some answers?

Oh dear. Just about all of them. I managed to activate only one in the desert(which took me to the castle where I found the prince). If you could just tell me how to find ta least one maybe I could get on from there. Thank you for your trouble

can you help me please y reached at a battlefield where evrybodi is dead and a soldier asked my for water i found water but i dont now how to get it and deliver it

If I remember correctly, once you find the soldier you have to walk to the west of him where you will find his water bottle. Then you can fetch him some water.
