one of the best games i've ever played!!!
the gameplay is awesome
and the washed out colors.. i dont think so.. not to bash
but it has a darker and grittier feel than the other call of duties, the A.I are a lot smarter and it actually takes a little bit of tactics to beat this game
co-op is amazing, the online is just as good as COD4
overall 10/10
if you like WWII and COD4 this is a must have!
Thanks, that's just the review I wanted. I'm going to buy this as soon as possible.
It's neither.
It's a middle of the road game.
Not nearly as good as the Infinity Ward installments, but a hell of a lot better than the Medal of Honor games.
I'm probably in a different position than a lot of you guys because I didn't expect a good game.
My only real complaint is that the ringing in your ears when a grenade goes off next to you is far too realistically painful. They need to chill out with it--I've heard it in real life and I would prefer a less painful version in games.
So you would rate CoD4 way above this one?

Yes, I would. I would also rate CoD 1 (plus the expansion) and 2 above it.
I haven't played the console-only CoD 3, however.
Why exactly would you rate those above this one?
CoD4 was quite intense and had a cinematic quality about it. I liked it for this reason.
The previous WWII CoD games did have rather drawn-out missions, but you seldom if ever had a "what the heck is this supposed to be?" moment. The missions always made some kind of sense.
World At War's missions are very short--shorter than CoD4's missions--and with some of them you can't help but wonder what the designers were thinking. There are some ridiculous happenings taking place.
Having said that, it's a brilliant work compared to the Medal of Honor series.
I keep getting killed by grenades in the the first couple of minuets..that sucks.
The colors are very muted, sorta washed out looking..maybe it gets better later on???
Gonna d/l the trainer now.
The colors are as if it were filmed with a filter to reduce color saturation and increase contrast. It's the kind of filter used with Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.
They're trying to make it look like modern WWII movies.
