cheers guys,
thought it would but i'd like to make sure. I am running vista ultimate 32-bit.
is the game worth getting or is it a let down like generals was
I got to tell you… I've observed more debates about Generals and there is almost a 50/50 response, both negative and positive.
Now granted, I mod'd the crap out of Generals like many other RTS games I've played, to the point that it isn't even the same game anymore (LOL), and I will do the same with RA3, till the game meets my desired level of "fun."
That being said, RA3 is pretty dang awesome. I still haven't done a Co-Op in Campaign mode yet, but my roommate and I are planning on trying it within the next week. The biggest thing I've noticed about the game is that the game is heavily centered around two elements:
Teamwork
Naval Warfare
9/10 of all the maps available have water, of those maps, 80% are island maps. That will change soon as modders/mappers such as myself, RADEN, RVMECH etc, Make new maps with many more perks. The first thing I plan to do for a map is take the heavy naval wave force guns and mount them on fortress walls, to create a, "my fort Vs your fort" element. Should be a blasty-blast.
Some people whine about it is too "cartoony," which always drives me up a wall… people think their games have to be UBEROMGROFLL33T "realistic," and push their systems to the point of meltdown… What happened to the fact that playing games is about having fun and indulging your senses in creativity? Vice rudimentary crap that isn't original… seems lame to me, but that is JMO.
One thing that will be missing *Spoiler Alert* is WMDs that you have seen in past games, most of the super weapons are centered around Psi-onic/Vaccum/Proton based weapons… Nuclear weapons do not exist b/c Albert Einstein was phased out of existence by a violation commited by the Soviets in the Space-Time Continuum to erase him from existence. With this bared in mind, you will be more focused on aerial dogfights, flanking forces with tanks, chasing down infantry etc.
One thing I am REALLY enjoying is the AIs ability for threat assessment i.e. when you are gunning down an enemy squad of infantrymen as a Mecha-Tengu, and a couple of Soviet Gunships roll up on you with rockets, you can quickly transform into jets and engage them, but unlike in the past where they just sit there and take it like a champ, the helicopters will immediately run away as soon as you transform and will attempt to drag you into their anti-air units range in attempt to shake you off it's tail… very nice job on the AI indeed.
Well, I got more to say, but I probably lost a lot of people already with my babling… all in all… great game IMO.
must be the only work he can get since baywatch, i've seen someone else in clips i recognise

he's to the right of Tanya but i can't think where i've seen him before. And thanks for that skirmish does sound good- i look forward to shocking some bears and dogs. Which faction is a good starting point
Ironically, that is Tim Curry, for whom was in the movie, Red October as a Typhoon Class Soviet Submarine crewman. He was also in Home Alone 2:Lost in New York, which most people recognize him from that movie it seems...
IMDB is growing a decent list as far as actors in RA3, check it out, I was surprised on a few of them. ~~> Link
To be honest, everyone questions my favoritism of the Rising Sun faction, but they quickly realize that when I am always there as support at the right moments as anti-air or suddenly my psi-ops commando, Yuriko is tossing a V4 who is long range bombarding my allies defenses... they realize that I am lethal with them.
But, that's just me... I would advise starting as the Soviets to get your feet wet in Skirmish, as they have the most recognizable former units from prior games, then branch off to the Allies and Rising Sun when you finally are back in the saddle, so to speak... i.e. comfortably flanking enemy units, grasping the AIs attack methods etc... be aware though... the AI adapts very quickly, even on easy settings.
My roomie almost gave up playing together after 2 rounds of us getting defeated by 4 AI armies, and even though I hadn't been defeated yet, the game would have stretched on for another hour or so... and I didn't like him getting discouraged LOL.
Oh final note, be aware that each faction is different in small/suttle ways, but in fact it's those differences that may serve as your achiles heel, but also, your biggest advantage.. so be prepared for the unexpected
