I think you can hire Jerico at Megaton if you're Karma level isn't too high. He said he would join me if I wasn't such a goody-two-shoes. Then the little green bobblehead thing that pops up in the upper left said that my Karma was too high to hire this character.

I also ran across a robot seller that could possibly give you a bot to follow you...however, my karma was maxed (don't know if this had any bearing on the convo) and the guy just said he didn't have any bots for someone like me.

the robot guy is mostly around the robco facility, near tenpenny tower. you need a neutral karma to be able to take him with you. and it costs you 1000 caps. ~=)
its so fast it can do an infinite loop in thirty seconds!! =)
