yes because you need the base game first. the expk only expands on gameplay and does not contain the actual game perse

or you can buy the double deluxe which already comes with the nightlife and celebration pack...besidess its hard to find the sims 2 in stores sometimes(well at least where i live) but i strongly suggest double deluxe
