Does any one other than me think that spore was a big let down? Don't get me wrong the game is great, but the game was turned from a super realistic sim of evolution to a cartoony kiddy game. I say this because looking back at the demonstration at GDC in 2005, which got me into the hype, the game looked much better. Video Link-------> Link
It would be great if maxis released that version as a optional patch or standalone mod(game)

I think the clips look pretty much the same compared to the game myself.
And I don't think it was over hyped at all.

To me, the game is a bit of a letdown because of the lack of depth, but I expected that as I didnt let myself give in to the hype.
At first everyone had a knee-jerk reaction when the game was released of not liking it. Slowly, I'm finding that myself and many others are starting to appreciate its technical achievements as well as looking forward to mods and expansion packs.
We got a great foundation for a legendary game, folkds. Just wait!

nah i don't think it was a let down at all, but i do hope they will make Spore 2 with more options and depth to each stage.
or even just an underwater expansion pack or something.

Certainly not a let down here, it was exactly what I had expected, an extremely involved 3rd person/rts based and not to mention very fun to play game. The level of creativity is unbelievable and no other game has matched it and probably wont.

I think so to. Spore targets a different kind of game (and I'm not speaking of "casual gamers". It's not a "normal" game..it's just different.

i don't see that big of a difference between the video from years ago to whats running on my computer today. the way you build creatures changes a bit, and the way the camery works is different to the one in the video. creatures dont hold their spears with their weapons like in that video.
but to be honest: that are all details. its not important, and doesn't influence the game in any way, so i would play it differently. (at least i can't imagine that)
the part about "realism" allways gets me into discussions, deep. what part of the game would you like to be more realistic? would you like to temper with DNA, and find out what pair of acids what part in the body invluence? i allways do have a problem with realism. i don't want too much of it in my game. because its a GAME!!!
i see the game like StrangeFabs does. there is SO much potential in it, that only needs to be unleashed by the player. if you need a straight "'storyline'", and more action, go play GENERY SHOOTERâ„¢. if you say there isn't enough depth to each stage, i say: where is your imagination? remember playing with matchbox cars back then when you were a kid? what did you have? a car. nothing more. all the rest was your imagination, and i had a lot of fun with my matchbox cars back then! =)
its so fast it can do an infinite loop in thirty seconds!! =)
