why do you want to find the home planet anyway? wouldn't it be more useful to try "infiltrate" the outside worlds of the grox, make them not angry, do some missions and ally with them?
I'm actually doing that now. I managed to start up talks with the Grox before they starting shooting, and here's what I've found. (playing on hard, not sure if it's much easier on other difficulties)
I started out at -70 rep with them, they REALLY don't like others.
A gift of $100,000 will get you +3 rep per gift up to +10 rep from gifts max.
I then went in closer, and used the Super Happy Ray, which I was able to get a +30 rep for using friendly tools.
I then dropped an embassy, as I had a bio-disaster to prevent on one of my colonies I'll be heading back asap to do missions as well, but I was at neutral when I left for home space.
Well I cant get it any further then 25+ happyness with the grox.
Completed Mission: +50
Friendly Tools: +30
Your Gifts: +10
Agreed to help us: +5
We distrust strangers: -70
Total: +25
So does anyone know other ways to get points with the grox?

The problem is that most times you have to actually go to the planet under attack. I've found that even with Uber turret and full defense turrets, colonies tend to get wiped out even to weak pirates, unless I actually come to the planet, even if I do nothing once there.
The only time I lose a colony is when it comes under a heavy full-on grox attack. That only happens to my colonies right on the border of their space. Other than that the uber turrets seem to do their job very well.
The last time one of my planets came under attack by pirates I managed to get there pretty quickly but even as I was coming up on the last 2 pirates left the uber turret flew past me and destroyed 1 of the 2 before I could even catch up.
As discovered in the ship range thread, this lovley trainer was mentioned, it works smoothly alongside the CH trainer and as well as many other lovely options, it allows you to become friendly with all species, as well as stopping wars, and removing any naughty things you may have to to a race. Note: i take no credit for the trainer, just if you havnt visited the other thread you wont know about it.
trainer(SporeTrainer20.zip - RICHTX32.OCX) is infected with smitfraud-c, scanned it like 5 times with different software, good thing I did. I scan everything I download, unless I know the site is somewhat safe for downloading.
