I've actually managed to get a crash happen even with a proper legit version from here. If you start a new game and have the tutorial mode on, and enable options before doing the tutorial, the game will crash after the cutscene where Dante smashes down through the roof of the temple.
I'm putting this down to the fact that during the tutorial there is no lifebar, etc, and it runs differently to the rest of the game. If you don't play the tutorial (and most won't), then you won't run into this at all. The trainer works marvellously.

Ok, i clarify... It's not the trainer, sorry for the confusion.
Apparantly the game does have a few bugs (pfft... no surprise). If you have everything on Super High, then it will crash during the intro, as well as during some other random cutscenes in the game. It's something to do with the shadows, lowering them down to High stops the crashing it seems.
Also they look somewhat bugged, the shadows...

Ok, i've pinned the crashing down. If you're getting random crashes in cutscenes, do the following:
Open My Computer, go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\capcom\DEVILMAYCRY4
Open the custom.ini file, and scroll down the list till you see the option SLI=ON
If you're NOT running an SLI setup, change that to SLI=OFF, save the file and run the game. For some stupid reason if you have everything on Super High, it tells the game you're running SLI and if you're not, well... boomcrash. That little tweak should fix it.
Note: there is another option HDR=MEDIUM, and it seems to stay at that regardless of what quality setting. You CAN go ahead and set it to HIGH, but at a NOTICABLE performance hit and there is practically no graphical difference whatsoever.
