I just made my account for the sole purpose of commenting here.
I know this thread is freaking ancient, but if anybody here is thinking about another playthrough of Mass Effect just for old time's sake, and completely forgot how to do the in-game console (because the last post on here was, count it: 8 years ago. Feel old now?), here's the link to the guide to literally everything you need to know:
LinkJust a reminder, best armor for each character:
Tali : Kassa Colossus light armor. Nothing else comes remotely close.
Humans, Liara, Garrus : You have three excellent choices here: Jormangund Crisis/Hazard, Kassa Colossus, and Cerberus Freedom/Hoplite. Jormangund has the best shields by some distance, but lags behind both Kassa and Cerberus in damage protection, and has merely OK biotic/tech protection. Kassa's Colossus has the best damage protection, while also having more than adequate shields. However, its biotic/tech protection is pitiful. Cerberus has the worst shields out of the three by a numerically significant amount, but has excellent damage protection and by far the best biotic/tech protection. The choice is yours.
Wrex : Kassa and Jormangund make a return here, plus the Geth Battlemaster/Berserker/Rage armor. The geth armor has very slightly worse shields and damage protection than Kassa, but has amazing biotic/tech protection. Also, from an intangibles standpoint, it looks absolutely sick.
In general, damage protection is the most important stat regarding armor, as, like an earlier poster said, enemies in this game take down your shields relatively quickly. Biotic/tech protection only becomes important on harder difficulties, since that's when enemies finally become smart and use their biotic/tech abilities on a regular basis. Take these factors into account when choosing your armor.
I hope this helps you fellow old people out.
