The game seems to take forever to load. Is there a way to reduce load times? Or am I just being impatient and need a good slap across the face?

    Hi,

How much exactly does it take to Load the game's Level?

The Load time can depend on Many factors actually, but first of all check how much Memory(RAM) are you having? According to the Game's Requirement the Minimum RAM required is 1 GB and the recommended is 2 GB! So if you have more Memory, the better.

And, also if you have a Powerful and a Good Video Card(GPU) like the 8800 series or other with High memory along with the latest Drivers, then also the performance can increase.

Also make sure that NO Background programs are running in the window when you load and play the game.

    Thanks,
    Daniel.

    A couple minutes each time.

I have an E6850, 2gb ram, 8800GTX (768mb), XP Pro. But I do, generally, have some stuff running in the background. My software firewall, daemon tools (because I run games off of images I make because it's a hassle to swap CDs all the time), the nvidia utility.

I was more wondering if there was any cab files that I could unpack which would speed things up. I don't want to just dive in there and mess something up and have to go through the bother of uninstalling/reinstalling.

    OK,

I think that much load time should be Normal. That's the Game's Engine which is not much compatible as other PC titles are. A few minutes load time should be acceptable for this game(Turok) and other new PC titles. I have heard of this game taking abnormal loading times between Missions on many PC's. Read the Review about this game on Gamespot(The second last Paragraph)

    www.gamespot.com/pc/action/turok/review.html

Even I have 8800 GTX with 4 GB of RAM on my XP pro(64 Bit), the game still takes some time to load!!. I thought it must be taking far too much time as you wrote before, but try disabling the background programs like Anti-Virus/Firewall etc. That should speed up the process. I'm not sure about the Daemon tool stuff, as I just Install the game from the DVD and then apply the NO DVD/CD patch.

That frees you from the hassle of having the DVD/CD everytime you play.

But why are you running the game from the IMAGE file(.iso or other) you made? Why not just install it directly from the DVD and then apply the NO DVD crack? But still that won't effect much on the load time though.

Even if you Unpack the game's file(*.upk) that won't speed up the process, it will only take huge amount of your Hard Disk space. I once tried to unpack all of DOOM3's .pak/pk4 files, the performance did increase a bit but not too much.

So you can first disable the Background Stuff running and see any difference?

I have bad luck with cracks and my computer thinking it's a virus.

Disabling everything I could didn't help a whole lot.

I guess I'm just impatient. I stopped playing The Witcher because of the ridiculous load times. It's not worth searching a house for 30 seconds and then wait 5 minutes in and out for the flipping game to load.

    Hey,

Don't worry at all. Even I'm same like you and I too Hate to wait , BUT I can't just stop playing First Person Shooters(FPS) as I like them a lot and that's the only genre in PC games that I play.

Even TIMESHIFT, Medal Of Honor:Airborne and a few more take much loading time !

As I told it's the Turok Engine that is causing the Delay, not your PC.

But you can use the NO DVD/CD Cracks. The only reason your PC may think that it's a Virus will be your Personal Firewall ?

Else those patches/cracks should be safe as per my knowledge.
    Enjoy,

    Thanks,
    Daniel.
