I thought load times depended on hard drive speed. The faster the speed, the less time you have to wait for a game to load. Most computers now come with 7200RPM drives, you might have a 5400RPM drive, and dragonsingh might have a 10,000RPM Raptor drive.

Yeah, whether or not your partition is 1 mb or 1 tb, it still only spins at one speed and transfers data at one speed.

during loading the game engine runs parallel with software generally stored in c drive. when a system runs these software HD reads them one by one from different location. for an idle system the time taken to read is micro sec but when the game engine suck all your ram and processor and HD is required to switch rapidly between data, system starts lagging

to avoid this

use high speed HD
use partition better option is to use 2 different HD
best option is to use raid feature
defragmentation is necessary

still dont believe me consult with experts u will come to know why ur system is slow for big games

None of those has anything to do with the size of the drive, as you opined earlier.

If you take two HDDs with the same specs except size. One is 1mb and one is 1tb- both will read at the same speed, within standard tolerance.

The most important factor in load time is how the game is designed, not your hardware.

edit- I was going to say something else but forgot--If a game has outstandingly high resolution textures, I will forgive long load times. But Turok's graphics are three years out of date, so it's doubly unforgivable.

Dude don't worry about load times....just do the best to keep ur system in shape...defrag ur drives...close unwanted programs..third party applications etc. ..especially anti-virus's. most games specify in their manual that it would be prudent to close ur anti-virus. that's y i have two systems. one to play kick-ass games(on which i don't have anything installed except for games) and the other to surf the net and do my work. enjoy!

if it takes a lot of time to load the game that means u must upgrade ur computer or u must play in low graphics

Dude.. He Doesn't have to Upgrade OR turn down his Graphics. He has a step up card from me (8800GTX, Im running 8800GT) and I Can play Max Graphics flat-out, no Lag. So it has nothing to do with Upgrading. His processor is just fine too, probably even has it overclocked a lil' bit.

I would follow the advice of the predacessors, and Defrag your hard drive, it won't help a huge amount, but it should help.. It only takes me about 30 seconds to a minute to load a map for Turok.
