Maybe it works with an alternative version of the game. Unfortunately, they haven't written for what version it works with.

the same happens to me, i tried the versions 1.0 and 1.1 if i use the trainer the game crashes in both versions

I am running retail version 1.0 (with no patches) and the trainer works like a champ. It will not work with the 'Good Old Games' version you can buy on the net.
I bought and tried the GOG version and finally had to dig through tons of cd's to find my original retail game.
