I hear ya the patch should address both OS's, also I was reading in another forum about cleaning out temp folder and internet temp folders and that had helped a few with XP
also I was curious as to why your sys sees the moniter as default plug and play?

High graphics or not, I've tried every solution there is to fix this problem. My beast of a computer runs it fine on high graphics and low graphics, the only problem are these game ending bugs (or 'Invisible lines') that shut the game off without a warning.
Its default plug and play because its a third party monitor working with Nvidia :P

try lowering the the graphics settings i think the crashing problem will go away. the problem with vista is, it uses a lot of resources and leaves a little for other things. that is why it's important to have at least 3GB of ram and a intel core2duo, also a good video card to get the best out of Windows vista.

I wish you'd read data129. We've tried everything- the crash still occurs on XP and Vista.

A new patch 1.01 is out. Hope this overcome the problem some users here are facing. I've no problem in running this game on Win MCE 2005.
