I know GTA IV isn't coming out until April 29th but there's no reason we can't start talking about it now. That's what this thread is about, so we can talk about ANYTHING that's related to Grand Theft Auto IV. Your hopes for the game, what you do and don't like about GTA in general, how rival games stack up, whatever.

So I'll start off by saying that in my opinion, GTA IV is the gaming event of the year 2008. I've been waiting years for this and if I could only have one game it would be this one. I'd give up Halo 3 in a heartbeat for this game.

San Andreas wasn't as good as it could have been. The story wasn't believable, even by GTA standards. I mean, come on, some punk from the hood killing mobsters?, DEA and FBI?, the U.S. Military? Total BS if you ask me. And I also think that Rockstar tried too hard with all the clothing and eating and other extra crap that didn't make the game any better. I preferred GTA 3, Vice City, and Liberty City Stories; the mafia scene was more believable. So what does everyone else think?

GTA IV may NOT be the game of the year 2008 cause this is only like what, February. There's still plenty of time for other gaming companies to make new games to compete with GTA IV for that title. What about Mercenaries 2, etc ?? As for Rockstar introducing all that eatin & clothing was just wasting too much time. As for features i wanna see in GTA IV, i read the other thread in CH & it pretty much sums up everything that i wanted so far, but there's no flying of planes in GTA IV, only helicopters. I mean, how would u fit a Boeing 747 in a crammed up street surrounded by skycrapers & the like ?? Pretty ugly if u tell me.

Also, I don't think giving up Halo 3 for GTA IV would be wise. We're talking about different gaming approaches here. Halo 3 is a FPS while GTA IV is a RPG game, so I would rather keep Halo 3 & add GTA IV to my collection.

About the game event of the year thing, I was just talking about for me personally. I don't play many games, really only GTA, Halo, and NFS/Midnight Club. But a racing game is never as fun as a Grand Theft Auto game and Halo 3 came out in 2007. Other people like other games but for me GTA IV is the one game that I must have. I never really played ANY video games before GTA III came out, it started my love of games.

I wouldn't actually give up Halo 3 for GTA IV since I could just have both but if I could only have one it'd be GTA IV. But I'm definitely selling my copy of Pro Street to help pay for GTA IV.

I didn't really like the graphics in San Andreas either. I think GTA III has the best overall graphics of any of the previous games. The graphics in GTA IV are just amazing but that's just because the 360 can handle them. I'm definitely getting an Intercooler because with such good graphics I'm pretty sure my 360 will heat up a LOT.

I also hope that GTA IV has more of an organized crime vibe to it. That's what made GTA III, Vice City, and Liberty City Stories so good.

We really can't know that until we play both games. But there is one thing that Rockstar always does better than the other companies, the physics. The cars and player always drive and move a lot more smoothly and realistically than in other games. I don't know why no one else has managed to do the same, patent on the physics maybe?, but unless Saint's Row 2 has more realistic physics I would say GTA IV is the better one. But I'll just wait until both come out to make a true decision.

Agreed. Judging by the recent 4th trailer, the physics are once again going to become the new benchmark for 1st/3rd person action games. I mean, check how the guy being shotgun'ed in the chest rolls and falls down the stairs after getting hit, its just so natural, whereas in the original Saints Row (can't comment on SR2 as I haven't seen ANYTHING relating to it), they'd just hop back and drop, sliding ridiculously down the stairs or stopping half-way.

I'm just looking forward to a more gritty and overall realistic feel compared to say GTAIV/SA/Saints Row, all of which, to me at least, have always seemed rather cartoon-like. There are only 26 days left now, so I simply can't wait until my Special Edition version turns up for my 360. If my 360 can handle 48-hours straight of XP-whoring in R6V2, then I'm sure it can handle GTAIV.

I'm actually a bit worried about the processing requirements. I plan on playing in my basement where it's nice and cool. I already have an intercooler so it should be able to handle the heat. I might have to elevate my 360 so the carpet doesn't impede air flow, guess I'll just have to wait and see.
