Well, you do have a choice: kill him and obtain the precious ingredient or do a few quests and save him for Carmen. You will find her late in chapter three and she won't tell you anything about Vincent, except the fact that she's looking for a cure for lycanthropy. Talk with a few people and they will suggest to find the identity of the werewolf. Do a few quests. Solve the entire puzzle. And you will have one more companion in the final battle, when Vincent will join you as a Werewolf. The other companion will be the spoiled princess(depends on what you will do in the game). Though you won't control those two, you will have someone to distract the endgame boss. And it's a decent boss, I might add... P.S.: the skill that you take it's useful only at night and pretty much useless when you get to make the potion. That, if you've created a melee character
