I have 2 American cars and am considering selling them and buying a new BMW 5. I'd like a 6,but can't come up with that much cash. I am keeping my Supra being that its a Toyota and the toys are excellent cars.

by all means, go ahead. but i've heard reports that some modern European cars are 'drinking' more fuel than those of their American counterparts. but i think the BMW 5 series should be okay in terms of fuel economy

BMW's are awesome cars. My friend has a BMW 760Li and that thing kicks you in the gut whenever you press the accelerator, it is a seriously powerful car. Most car magazines seem to really hate the iDrive system though. The 5 Series is a very nice car, my personal favourite would have to be the new M3 though.

And the thing about European cars drinking more fuel than the Americans, it's true. The only difference is that the European cars make a lot more power and aren't afraid of turns. The main thing about fuel economy though, the way you drive has more of an affect than anything. Hard acceleration and high speeds can turn fuel efficient cars into drinkers. I usually accelerate pretty hard, only go 10-15 KPH over the limit though which is hardly anything, I use way more gas driving than my parents do.

Yesterday I test drove a new BMW 5 and a 6,and although both cars are dynamic drivers and divinely comfy,I found them to be too sophisticated for my taste and rather complicated. I prefer cars that are simple and easy to operate.

Not surprised, most people complain that luxury cars are too complicated these days, they have dozens of buttons that take forever to learn. I like the classic two knob design that controls the radio, and a few climate control switches. This whole business about going into the nav computer/iDrive to do simple things is just over complicating the matter.

Germans tend to over do it with the gadgets and gizmos on their cars. After driving 2 Beemers,I can say,I don't care to own one. My Dad does own one and said he'd teach me how to operate each of those controls. No thanks. I'll pass.

I'd make the salesperson show me what every single button does. I doubt I would turn down a BMW even though they have so many controls. The driving experience should more than make up for that. Once you program in your favourite settings it gets a lot simpler anyways.

Salesman said he'd give me a wortwhile deal on a new Beemer if I use my Mustang GT as a trade in. I'm tempted, but attached to my Ford.
