Seriously. I got 87% through it on expert and failed. I was so angry...grr...but If I could do it that time I'm sure I can do it again.
But.
If you guys were wondering how, I just studied these two videos.
LinkLinkWhere I usually fail is...sadly...in the beginning part. The way Conrad does it works better for me in the beginning, but then I had an idea...I taught myself how to do the beginning part, holding the green fret with my left hand, and the other four with my right, with my brother strumming up and down slowly for when I miss one...lol. Theres nothing against that, is there?
As for the next part...just strum up and down...fast...and its easy. I usually miss like 5-10 notes there. When the notes are back and forth (as in b,o,b,o,b,o,b,o over and over again) I just use my pointer and middle finger, no matter what teh note color.
The main key to the rest of the beginning is the speed at which you need to strum. If you go too fast, you over strum and fail. If you go to slow, you just miss a bunch and start to fail. And miss out on your precious star power. Practice teh beginning, but not on slow, slower, slowest or anything...It'll mess you up with the beat and everything for the real deal. Keep it at full speed, and the fast parts over and over again until you get the beat next to perfect.
That is mainly the song. Until you get to the solo. Erm, solos, mainly after the (Woah, oh, woah) part with the two notes. (About 4 minutes in ben's video).
Not lifting up all your fingers for the single notes for the hammer-ons also is important. It saves time and, believe it or not, makes teh notes a tad bit easier to hit. I strum them, even as pull-offs, because I often miss them. Find the beat of the up-down on the strum bar for the solo pull offs and life will be easier.
Repeat.
Now at 7 minutes in ben's video, is one of the hardest parts in the song. Practice this part, because eventually, you will get to that part. And fail. At like 95% through the song. Which is heartbreaking. jk.
But anyways. I dont know why I failed at 87%...I guess my fingers were hurting lol. But if you ever need to pause in the middle of a song to let your fingers rest...do it. Just make sure you remember what part you left off at, so you dont bomb and fail.
Thats my tutorial. Kinda. I hope it helped. If you were crazy enough to attempt the song in the first place.
