Has Crysis lived up to the hype?

When Crytech came out with Far Cry, I firmly believe that they changed first person shooters completely. It remains an absolutely awesome game.

So, when Crysis was announced, like many others I waited with anticipation wondering how they would improve on Far Cry. The teasers showed superb graphics and novel ideas stemming from the nanosuit, but has it actually surpassed the playability of Far Cry?

Well now I have completed it, I am not so sure. I am not going to spoil the ending but it seems to be following the pattern seen in Half Life 2 Episodes 1, 2 and so on. At the end I felt like saying "Was that it?". For me the whole experience has been more like that of Halo with some innovative tweaks. However, the massive maps, expansive game playing and freedom seen in Far Cry have been either forgotten or lost. I wonder how much Crytek have got lost in the technology rather than the playability - a little like comparing a PS3 and a Wii?

For me STALKER has more to offer in terms of non-linear play (you choose where you go), customisation and variability of weapons and even given its buggy nature, I have to say it is a much more enjoyable game to play. It should be interesting to see what a DX10 version will be like.

Crytek have talked about how there will be more to come. I do hope so and I hope that they also take two steps back, look at what is around today and come up with something that sticks more closely to the Far Cry ethos. I live in hope.

I agree. To be honest they left it hanging too much. It was too easy and too short. I couldnt believe how they ended it and the end boss wasnt even hard and to be honest didnt really feel like a end boss so when the credits started i was gobsmacked and to be really honest the credits were longer than the game. I mean come on! all those people! all those eomplyees involved in making them game and thats all they can do. When it said 12GB to install my first thought were this is going to be a long game like "bioshock" but unless you want to waste time going arnie though the jungle on your own taking on everything you see and not actually fulfilling the primary goals then its over pretty quick.

Its just a usual thing that ALL EA GAMES never stand & live up to its BIG hype !

So does with Crysis too !
I must admit that the graphic is truly superb & magnificent despite u will need absolutely min 4G memory to run this game pretty smoothly BUT...

Once again in terms of gameplay, there is nothing new at all
Maybe in MP there is a new mode but still doesn't offer some new point that radically evolve the gameplay of FPS

I very agree that playing STALKER is much more fun too

I had same feeling I got to the end and felt like (What is that it) it took me by surprise how quick it ended

I completed all missions and secondaries and killed almost every thing to and it still seemed short

Have you played in "Delta"? I'm sure with "Delta" you would not finish it that fast.

I definitely found the ending dissappointing. Then again, that's how people make money. Leaving plenty of room for sequels. And they still have the multiplayer to lean on until then, along with a lot of mod-ability.

Overall, aside from being too short, I think it was a good game, but I'm no hardcore FPS fan myself. Loved the graphics, LOVED the physics, can't wait to see where other games take the tech from here.
