I'd be tempted to go with 64 bit Visa myself as I have the hardware to support it. But as far as I know, all of the games out today are 32 bit. So you won't get as much advantage (e.g. virtual address space etc.) as you would if the executable was designed for 64 bit.
Anybody know if there are any games that are compiled and optimized for 64 bit?
i run Vista, and well before i bought it, i heard it was supposedly a really bad gaming platform, but i was pleasently surprised, sure it has some problems here and there, but the compatability options gain can solv 99% of those, just running the game in compatablility mode fixed HGL for my laptop
(game complained that i didnt meet minimun requirements... but it was only seeing 1 of the dual cores (clocked at 1.8Ghz) but i ran it in compatability for Xp SP2 and it runs fine!)
so far, there is no game that Vista cannot run, atleast no game released before '98, havent tried any older games... it might take a bit of tweaking... but they work, so wether your sticking with XP or switching to Vista, either way is fine, but the firewall on Vista is great... for once i dont need a 3rd party firewall...
hope this helps
yes, Vista uses a bit more resources from your hardware.. but from all the features i still think it was worth it
i recommend atleast 2Gb ram though, no matter what game you want to play..

half life 2 has a 64 bit mode atleast the steam version does but it seems more and more games now are suporting 64bit as they can get alot more power out of the pc's by using 64bit.
but i have been running windows xp x64 and vista ultimate x64 for about a year and a half now and never had a problem also it seems to give better load times over the 32bit systems. but i have used vista since beta 1 and havnt found anything that doesnt run on it. from my experience anything that can run on xp can run on vista x64 with quite a big preformance boost over xp even the 64bit xp.
