Pretty much the title says it all, looking for a newbie friendly guide to what class combinations work the best. Specifically I am looking for one, that as a first time player will help me get from 1-20 quickly the first time though so I can unlock the other abilities that come with that as well as seeing the RP content the first time around.

I would recommend classes to have would be warrior/monk, warrior has a strong build and good armour, and when you are fighting you can use monk skills to heal yourself.
Warrior/monk= WIN

Thanks for the quick answers, Warrior/Monk does seem like a solid combo. I'll give it a whirl.

i recommend warrior/ ranger over war/ mo
i had a war monk and i wasn't too impressed, but my war ranger is way better, i was able to solo charr at level 9 with him...but with my war monk i had a hard time doing it at level 12.
you can have a pet as a war ranger and that helps out alot, you also get a heath regen spell that is awesome, just cast it right before you go into battle and if you have high tatics then you can combine that spell with the healing signet making you nearly impossible to take down
